Triathlon Training!

Tue, 08/06/2010 - 12:13

8/6/10 Tim's gig rowing racing career got off to a reasonable start on 23rd May at the Rock Gig Regatta at Daymer Bay.  The weather was scorching and I was the oldest, least fit and most overweight in the crew (spot me in the photos in the gallery "Sporting Events"), but despite this, or maybe because everyone else was so much better we (The Roseland mens "B" crew) managed to come third out of 10 crews.  The event was amazing, 20 years ago when the gig club in St Mawes started it was more an excuse for a few drinks and a bit of rowing, now things are much more like a serious rowing club you might find in London, that is as far as the training is concerned.  For those in the know (rowing wise) the Falmouth "A" crew all have 2000m ergo times of about 6min 15 sec (to those that don't know that is pretty serious, and not good for St Austell brewery!!!)

8/6/10 Ami's long swimming event a swim from Pendennis Castle (The Falmouth side of Carrick Roads) to St Mawes Castle (a distance of about 1.25 miles) happened on Sunday 6th June.  She made it in an epic time of 1 hour 48 minutes (the very last person out of the water).  It was also a great event, over two hundred swimmers took part and it was started and finished by Sharon Davies.  Hopefully we will have persuaded quite a few of these atheletes to enter our triathlon in September (a number of swimmers came straight out of the water and ran a 10km run, then got on their bikes and rode home)
